To Simba with love.

So many years it’s been since you stole my heart,

Picked us, your chosen, your set apart,

The ones in whom you placed your hope,

For a brighter brand-new start.

Hatred was all you did see, feel, hear,

A human’s touch brought only fear,

Yet open was your heart so dear,

That human love again drew near,

You somehow saw it all so clear.

For love you gave beyond all measure,

A priceless find, a wondrous treasure,

That could never have known in the moments of leisure,

How truly you brought such tremendous pleasure.

You walked around with majestic grace,

A kindly look adorning your face,

A beast proud and tall standing in his place,

Yet serene and calm, with a gentle embrace.

Your wondrous hugs and contented sigh,

The smile that was light in each beautiful eye,

The wordless comfort that couldn’t lie,

That told me it was okay each time we said goodbye.

A showman who could sure impress,

But never one to feel distress,

Whose rest and play would each day bless,

Admired by many as they did confess,

How could we have asked for any more or less.

Undented is our love and pride,

Though years have passed since the time you died,

Yet you gave us a thousand smiles,

For every time we cried.

Now you live in memory and heart,

In us, your chosen, your set apart,

The ones in whom you placed your hope,

For a brighter brand-new start.

As I conclude I remember with gladness,

Just how it all began,

I wish that time had just slowed down,

But mercilessly on it ran.

Yet so lucky do I feel for all of it,

From beginning to the end,

My beautiful boy I’m forever thankful,

That I had you as a friend.
